New Orleans, LA – January 20, 2010. Painter Haitham Eid is participating in the 12th Annual Invitational Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibit “The American Dream” for the third time in a row at The New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture and History (NOAAM) at 1418 Gov. Nicholls Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 from January 23 to March 14, 2010. Opening reception is on January 23rd from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

Eid’s contribution to the exhibit this year is two paintings “Pants” and “Conflict”. Time comes with great men that can bring about great change. They spread peace, unify people and impact the world. Eid has expressed this notion through his abstract mixed media painting “Pants”.  In “Conflict” Eid depicts the conflicts inside the human being and their possible impacts on their vision of things and behavior. Both mixed media paintings demonstrate Eid’s artistic flexibility.  According to Eid, the subject matter and the inspirational environment at the time of conception dictate which colors and techniques are best suited to express his vision.

Haitham Eid is a contemporary Egyptian artist based in New Orleans. He works as an art teacher at Andrew H. Wilson Charter School, New Orleans, LA. He was granted the 2007 BW Fellowship Award from the Association of African American Museums (AAAM) and received proclamation and appreciation letters from Ray Nagin, Mayor of New Orleans, City Council of New Orleans, Tulane University, Southern University at New Orleans and many other institutions for his artistic achievements. Eid said “Artists are the neuron and the heart of their communities. They are the first to feel the pain, danger, love and kindness. The have been given the talent to illustrate people’s hope and ambition. Artists create    art not only for enjoyment but also for education, documentation, raising questions and awareness".

The 12th Annual Invitational Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibit “The American Dream” is sponsored by The National Conference of Artists. Beside Haitham Eid there are more than twenty accomplished predominately New Orleans based artists who are participating in the exhibit.
