Artist Marcus Brown Shows at Delgado Community College

By Doug MacCash NOLA.com, On Wednesday morning artist Marcus Brown's two-tone dreadlocks swayed like willow branches in the wind. Every time his brush slashed across his specially rigged electronic canvas, the gallery thundered with improvised techno jazz. Brown was giving a private preview of his "Electro-Sonic" exhibit that opens tonight, Feb. 5, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., and a performance at 6:30 p.m. at Delgado Community College.

With his sound-machine finger-painting pad, paint brush video camera, and other custom-made gadgets, Brown is a digital-age, artistic/musical mad scientist. But he blends his high-tech experimentation with old-school style. Really old-school: 1950s Action Painting and Bebop jazz. I predict we'll be hearing (and seeing) plenty from the 26-year-old, New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts sculpture teacher is the future.

"Electro-Sonic: A Sound Painting Exhibit," continues through Feb. 25 at the Isaac Delgado Fine Arts Gallery, 615 City Park Ave., 504.671.6377. Hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4pm.
